The reality is, that opening a brick and mortar is chaotic. The product might be great, but if people don’t know the opening date, what the business is supposed to feel like, what makes it different, or why they should show up, the launch can fall flat.

A new storefront needs attention and excitement before the doors open. Consumers need to know the name, understand the feeling, and have something to be excited about! This is one of those things a lot of business owners neglect. They’re busy getting up to code, securing funding, worrying about a million other little (or large) things that go into starting a business. And although marketing your launch and your brand pre-opening is extremely necessary, it doesn’t mean you should prioritize that over getting up to code for instance. That leaves a conundrum for the prospective business owner: How can they make sure all necessary things get done in order to have a successful launch, while not detracting themselves from other strenuous, and consequential tasks.

When we met Stella, the owner of Stellies Ice Cream, this was her exact predicament. She was smart enough to know the value behind a strong brand and messaging, but also knew she didn’t have the time to do it herself while getting her shop open. After speaking, we quickly realized how much potential that Stellies Ice Cream had. We took an extremely involved approach about a month prior to her grand opening to make sure it was a success. We balanced targeted social media posts with professional photography of her ice cream. We further pushed what made her different from others in the space. Over the course of three months, we grew her instagram from 500 followers, to over 2,500. All with zero ad spend!

When I say consistency within social media, that doesn’t mean just posting the same thing every day. It means showing up with a clear voice, recognizable visuals, repeated messaging, and enough variety to keep people engaged. For a local ice cream shop, that meant intentional product photos, behind the scenes content, opening updates, flavor highlights, owner personality, and community posts. People follow local businesses when they feel connected to them. The growth with Stellies didn’t come from one viral post, it came from giving people repeated reasons to care, share, visit, and stay tuned.

You don’t need to overcomplicate things, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on meta ads and wonder why they aren’t working. Take a step back, and above all else, make sure you are consistent, and fresh. Consistency builds recognition. Recognition builds trust, and trust will bring you customers for years to come.
